For our office in Barcelona we are looking for a talented and proactive student with a particular interest in model making and a good eye for detail to join our in-house model shop.
As the Model shop Intern, you will support and produce different types of physical models (from sketch models to high-quality presentation models) using different digital and manual techniques in collaboration with our architectural project teams. You will also help maintain a functional and organized workshop.
NB: Please only apply if your internship can run for a minimum of 6 months.
As an Model Shop Intern at BIG, you will:
- Support and produce physical scaled models and help on fabrication in a multidisciplinary environment
- Maintain a functional workshop taking care of our facilities: main space, 3D print farm, laser cutter, etc.
- Work on a variety of models, from quick sketches to final presentation models
- Work closely with our Architecture teams
- Develop and expand your knowledge of making techniques and practices
- Be part of the BIG experience
Requirements:
- Experience combining different materials and techniques of making
- Good skills on 3d modelling (Rhino), advanced skills is a plus
- Experience with 3d-printing and laser cutting. CNC is a plus
- Knowledge of alternate making methods such as mould-making, plaster/resin casting, etc.
- A noted attention to detail and interest in quality craft
- Experience handling hand tools/ workshop machinery is a plus
- Communicate effectively within our team, and with the design teams
- Ability to take initiative in response to direction or instructions
- Have great interpersonal communication skills
- Be a current student and won’t graduate during your internship. Graduates (master level) cannot be considered as interns in regard to the Spanish legislation. We will follow up on your educational status and you will have to sign a declaration prior to your start.
- Be fluent in English
- Available for at least 6 months
